How to Remove a Garage Door

If you are planning to replace an old Garage Door, you can consider two options; Hire a Professional who can do this job or do all the work yourself. If you don’t want to hire a professional, you can perform this activity by following instruction and exercise caution. While replacing the old Garage door, you have to remove the door and spring assemblies. It’s up to you to keep all the tracks and replace those as well.

Disconnect the Garage door opener by removing the opener and unplugging the motor unit from the electrical outlet. You have to release the cord that is hanging down from the opener track Disconnect the trolley support arm from the door by removing the cotter pin and connecting bolt at the door end of the arm.

After doing these steps the door will be separated and you can remove the entire opener assembly. There are two types of garage door springs; Extension springs and Torsion spring. If you are using torsion spring then you can replace it by calling a Garage door Professional or by visiting Renew Exteriors LLC pressure washing service but in case of Extension, spring removal follows a few simple steps.

Open the Garage Door and connect a C- clamp on both sides for preventing the door from rolling down once the springs are removed. Temporarily tape or tie each spring to a door track. Use pliers to remove the lift cable from the bottom bracket on each side of the door. Disassemble the spring and pulley assemblies.

Arrange blocks of wood from preventing pinching the fingers while you lower the door. With one or two assistants supporting the load of the door in the open space, eliminate the clamps from the door tracks. Accurately drop the door until it rests on the woodblocks.
